Dentist celebrates opening of Marcoola practice and Australian first

June 25, 2015

It’s all smiles as Townsend Family Dental celebrates the opening of a second practice in Marcoola today, in addition to the very successful practice in Noosaville, as well as being the first Australian dental practice to offer the cutting-edge Digital Smile System offering patients a preview of their new smile before treatment starts.

Dr Richard Townsend said the practice, which is located in the Town of Seaside, will not only be more accessible for existing clients who live further south on the Sunshine Coast but will also provide an opportunity to expand the client base and the appointment hours available.

“We are delighted to be opening our practice in such a thriving part of the Coast to provide greater convenience for many of our existing clients and their families who currently travel up to Noosaville for their appointments and also to offer dental services to others in the Marcoola/Coolum area,” Dr Richard said.

“I have always loved Marcoola — having called it home for many years — and it’s wonderful to see an area like the Town of Seaside get an injection of energy thanks to the increase in local businesses and the rapid rise of the Boardwalk and other neighbouring precincts.”

“My wife Cindy and I started the Noosaville practice in 2006 with one staff member and myself as the only dentist. We have seen this grow to two practices, nine staff and four dentists so it’s been a great journey.”

“We hope this is as a result of more people being aware of the importance of dental hygiene as this continues to be a concern for the Australian population.”

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, in 2014 one in two 12-year-olds had tooth decay in their permanent teeth and three in ten adults aged 25-44 had untreated tooth decay.

“While there is definitely an increase in awareness in regard to oral hygiene, we still need to get the word out that regular visits to the dentist not only assist in maintaining health teeth and a beautiful smile, but are also important to prevent a range of other health problems such issues with digestion and heart health,” Dr Townsend said.

“Of course with the incredible developments in technology there has also been greater demand for cosmetic dentistry as people realise the impact of a beautiful smile on their confidence. We are delighted to be the first Australian dental practice to introduce the Digital Smile System — software which shows patients their future smile before treatment commences — which is a great outcome for patients on the Coast.”

“We have state-of-the-art equipment and offer personalised treatments to get the best outcomes for our clients and I believe it’s this tailored approach which has given us fantastic word-of-mouth referrals and has ultimately resulted in the growth of our business.”
