Final touches underway before gates open this Friday, 11 July
Australia’s top green thumbs are heading to the Sunshine Coast this week (11–13 July 2025), with the Queensland Garden Show returning to the Nambour Showgrounds for its 41st year. Over three days, the event will transform the grounds into a gardening wonderland — packed with plants, products, and expert advice.
This year’s Show is the biggest yet, featuring more than 360 exhibitors and displays. From boutique nurseries to rare plant growers, more than 60,000 plants will be on sale daily, alongside an incredible selection of gardening must-haves, display gardens and kids activities.
Spanning more than seven hectares, the event also boasts Australia’s largest gardening speaker program — with more than 100 free talks and demonstrations from the country’s best-known gardening personalities. Expect to see familiar faces from ABC’s Gardening Australia, including Costa Georgiadis, Jerry Coleby-Williams, Sophie Thomson, and Millie Ross.
Also, back for another year of botanical brilliance is artist and landscaper Tohm Hajncl, a long-time favourite at the Giant Kitchen Garden and a fixture of the Show for over a decade.
“The Garden Show is close to my heart — I come back every year because I love designing productive gardens and inspiring others to grow — that is what it’s all about it,” Mr Hajncl said.
“This year is extra special as the garden wouldn’t exist without the incredible team of nearly 20 volunteers who’ve given their time, energy and passion – including students from the Compass Institute. It’s been a real community effort.”
This year, Mr Hajncl’s signature installation has a unique theme being built mostly from recycled materials.
“Together we have gathered and upcycled all number of items as I wanted to show how creativity and sustainability can go hand in hand in the garden.”
Event Manager Marion Beazley said this year’s Queensland Garden Show is shaping up to be the biggest and most exciting yet — with six stages, a jam-packed speaker lineup, and hands-on experiences for garden lovers of all ages.
“From Friday, the Showgrounds will be buzzing with more than 100 free talks and demos, led by some of Australia’s best-known gardening names, with a special addition of landscape designer Charlie Albone for his first Show appearance,” Ms Beazley said.
“From composting and native plants to edible gardens, wildlife-friendly backyards and sustainable design, the program dives into the topics gardeners care about — with expert advice, practical tips, and plenty of inspiration to take home.
“The speaker program is a real highlight, giving visitors direct access to decades of gardening wisdom and the latest trends in home horticulture.”
“Whether you’re looking to transform your backyard, pick up practical tips for every season, or simply soak up the community atmosphere, the Queensland Garden Show is the place to be.”
Other much-loved features returning this year include the Living Backyard, where experts share advice on attracting birds, bees, and other beneficial wildlife to your garden, as well as the Cook’s Garden Stage, hosted by Martin Duncan and featuring top chefs like Matt Golinski and Cameron Matthews, who will showcase paddock-to-plate cooking demonstrations.
“The Show continues to be a celebration of community, innovation, and inspiration, and we’re proud to welcome visitors from across Queensland and beyond.”
