Coolum Flicks celebrate Christmas Tree light up

November 25, 2013

Coolum Business and Tourism Association Inc. (CBAT) will be joined by Div. 9 Cr Stephen Robinson to celebrate the start of the festive season with a special ‘flicking of the switch’ ceremony on Saturday, 30 November 2013.

The town’s temporary Christmas Tree – located opposite Coolum’s Tickle Park – has been decorated as part of the Sunshine Coast Council ‘Christmas Tree Trail’, and Cr Robinson will join CBAT President Noel Mooney and his executive team as they light up the tree and officially declare the town’s summer tourist season open.

Last year, CBAT partnered with Sunshine Coast Council to provide a permanent community Christmas Tree in Tickle Park as part of the overall streetscaping works.

Although the specially dedicated Norfolk Pine is growing well in Tickle Park, it was deemed a little small to act as the town’s Christmas Tree this year so the temporary tree (located along the Esplanade and outside North Shore Realty) will again be the focus of the November 30 Festive season launch.

“I am really looking forward to this year’s festive season activities with my first event, the Coolum Christmas Tree light up this Saturday,” Cr Robinson said.

“”This is a great night out for all the family and one of the excellent initiatives by Coolum Business and Tourism Association.

While this year has had its challenges, there have been some outstanding events and achievements in the Coolum community through the support and commitment of many groups and organisations. I look forward to a successful 2014.”

A special Christmas themed free movie in the park – ‘Home Alone’, courtesy of Coolum Beach Flicks, will follow the tree lighting and families are encouraged to dress up in their best Christmas bling to kickstart the community’s vibrant festive spirit.

“It’s been a fantastic year for us here in Coolum and this event officially declares our town well and truly ‘open for business’ this festive season,” Coolum Business and Tourism President, Noel Mooney said.

“We are confident of a return to boom times this summer after what has been a harrowing few years all round for our local business and tourism operators.”

Coolum Business and Tourism has worked tirelessly to raise the town’s profile over the past 12 months, and was proud to give its members and the greater business community international exposure opportunities during the association’s inaugural ‘King of Coolum’ Thundercats Race, held on the beach over two days in July.

“We’ve also provided our members with several unique and highly successful marketing opportunities and we were thrilled to launch Coolum’s second annual ‘Little Book of Vouchers’ in September,” Mr Mooney said.

Throughout the year, the association has also delivered Kids Craft Holiday Workshops, free monthly movies in the park, and will again provide festive season funding sponsorship to the annual Australia Day parade in January.

“We are also celebrating the recent announcement of Coolum as location of the Kellogg’s IronMan championship round on February 23. It’s a massive coup for the entire community because it’s the only Queensland round and the only live to air round of the entire 2013-14 series,” Mr Mooney commented.

“You can bet we will be capitalising on the opportunities that sort of exposure brings and we are already busy planning some unique activities to run in tandem with the Ironman event. To be chosen over the Gold Coast this series is a fantastic boost for us!”

The festive season launch gets underway with the tree lighting from 6pm on Saturday November 30, which will be followed by a free festive ‘Coolum Beach Flicks’ screening of Home Alone 1.

Coolum Beach Flicks runs monthly in Tickle Park during the spring and summer months each year and remains a FREE family event thanks to the generous sponsorship of local businesses. Moviegoers are encouraged to support the sponsors – and help keep the movie nights a free community event.

Thanks to this month’s Festive Season launch movie sponsors: Coolum Business and Tourism, Sunshine Coast Council, Mitre 10 Coolum, Caribbean Dreams Ice Cream, Mortgage Choice, North Shore Realty Coolum, The Beach Retreat Coolum, Dominos Coolum, Essence @ Coolum Seafoods and Coolum Beach Surf Club.
