Company contributes over $90 million to CQ economy
May 16, 2013
Finding a place to call home in Central Queensland during the past few years hasn’t always been easy.
With the population booming, the only way to keep up with the ever-increasing demand in the property market has been to build apartments…and lots of them.
General Manager of RCQ Construction, Steve Cole said his company had secured contracts in excess of $90 million in the Central Queensland region during the past five years to make sure cities like Mackay and Moranbah have enough to meet the growing property demand.
“So far we’ve delivered 85 apartments through our Rivage and Fusion developments, later this year we will finish 91 apartments at Rivermarque and a further 30 apartments at Ludwig Apartments in Moranbah, and we are just about to start the 64-unit Riviera Mackay project,” Mr Cole said.
“The completion of Ludwig Apartments will come at a great time, with companies such as Vale and Aquila Resources saying they’ll be hiring around 900 construction workers and miners once the Eagle Downs mine ramps up near Moranbah next year.”
Mr Cole said the new mine was expected to have a 47-year lifespan, and as a result, he anticipated the new apartments would service workers requiring housing in the region for decades to come.
“Our vision has always been to create sustainable, integrated communities that meet the needs of residents, and we’re confident the projects we’re currently working on in the Central Queensland area demonstrate these ideals,” Mr Cole said.
“Our commitment to the region is long term and we expect our contribution will exceed the $100 million mark very soon — we hope to make an exciting new project announcement in the coming weeks.”
RCQ Construction completed its first project in Mackay — the award-winning Rivage development —in 2008, and has been contributing to the local skyline, as well as the economy, ever since.
“We pride ourselves on using mostly suppliers and contractors from Central Queensland,” Mr Cole said.
“At the moment we employ six local staff who work between our Mackay and Moranbah projects, and this number is set to increase in the coming months as work progresses.”
“We are committed to helping to build a sustainable and diverse economy in the Central Queensland region, and will continue to deliver projects that make it a great place to call home.”
