Coast concerts music to festival-goers’ ears

14-26 July 2015

April 28, 2015

One of of the Australian music industry’s rising stars, Jackson Thomas, will journey to the Sunshine Coast this July to deliver his original compositions and raw interpretations of popular covers as part of the 2015 Noosa Long Weekend Festival.

Jackson, who became a household name after appearing on The Voice in 2014, has supported international superstar Robbie Williams on his 2014 tour of Australia, and has been invited to tour with Ricky Martin in 2015. Jackson has also recently completed a string of stadium gigs around Australia as part of The Voice Top 8.

Noosa Long Weekend Festival Director Ian Mackellar said he was delighted to have Jackson joining the festival bill, which incorporates an array of live music as well as literature events, forums, theatre performances, interactive art, films, cabaret and supper clubs.

“Drawing inspiration from the likes of Jeff Buckley, Jackson’s pure tone and haunting voice catapulted him to stardom last year and has attracted a strong fan base around the country,” Mr Mackellar said.

“Jackson will be performing for one night only at The J Theatre in Noosa Heads on Saturday, 25 July.”

Mr Mackellar said he expected the concert would attract a new demographic to the 2015 festival, with Jackson proving particularly popular with the under-25s, on top of the more traditional festival market.

“While Noosa Long Weekend Festival has traditionally appealed to an older demographic, it’s great to see people of all ages embracing this year’s event,” Mr Mackellar said.

“We’ve already experienced strong ticket sales amongst all age groups ranging from youngsters accompanying their parents, right through to seniors.”
Mr Mackellar said Jackson was not the only well-recognised musician taking part in this year’s festival, with veteran entertainer Rob ‘Millsy’ Mills performing a dynamic and touching one-man show.

“His new show entitled Rob Mills is Surprisingly Good will deliver an eclectic mix of music and stories in an intimate supper club setting at berardo’s in Noosa Heads,” Mr Mackellar said.

“Musically, the show is as unpredictable as him, covering artists as far reaching as Taylor Swift, Gavin DeGraw and Coldplay, as well as hits from several of the musicals in which he has appeared such as The Last Five Years, Legally Blonde, and of course, Wicked.”

Mr Mackellar said Rob Mills would perform on Thursday, 23 July, with the event including a two course supper, glass of wine, and cabaret performance.
“Tickets are already selling quickly to this event, so if demand continues at this pace, we will consider offering a second performance on Friday, 24 July.”

Other musical performances taking place throughout the festival include Dusty Live in Concert starring Monique Montez; an exclusive performance by internationally acclaimed concert pianist and Steinway artist Julian Gargiulo (direct from New York’s Carnegie Hall); An Evening with Catherine Alcorn; and a new show from composer Bradley McCaw, just to name a few.

The 13-day 2015 Noosa Long Weekend Festival will feature more than 75 events at various locations around Noosa and will take place between Tuesday, 14 and Sunday, 26 July. Major highlights include a one-off performance and full scale production of The Magic Flute by Opera Australia and an evening with the Queensland Ballet, with tickets to all events selling fast.

Jackson Thomas

Jackson is a Melbourne based musician who recently found great success starring on The Voice 2014. Finishing second, he knocked out all of the ‘favourites’ of the show to be Ricky Martin’s last man standing.

Drawing inspiration from the likes of Jeff Buckley, his pure tone and haunting voice complements his raw interpretations of popular covers and original music. Jackson has also been invited to tour with Ricky Martin in 2015 and recently opened for Robbie Williams on his Australian tour.

“Jackson has the ability to draw people in, telling them a secret. There is no one else in this competition with that emotion.” Ricky Martin
