Coast community bands together for good cause

September 20, 2013

More than 550 members of the Sunshine Coast community will join Natalie Barr, Mark Beretta, Annalise Braakensiek and Joh Bailey in attempting to raise over $120,000 for the region’s paediatric patients, at the Palmer Coolum Resort this Friday.

The event, which is sponsored by Coastline BMW amongst others, will raise funds for the ongoing implementation of the diversional therapy program within Nambour Hospital’s children’s ward, and will see over 110 auction items go under the hammer.

Guests will also enjoy a fashion show featuring the designs of internationally-renowned designer Jayson Brunsdon, who has brought his Mercedes Benz Fashion Week show to the Sunshine Coast to support Wishlist in their fundraising efforts.

Organising committee chairman Travis Schultz said guests could look forward to an action-packed afternoon of entertainment including the Enormous Horns, and had the opportunity to take home a wide variety of coveted auction items.

“One of the more valuable items up for auction at the event is the vintage Penfolds Grange magnum, which has been personally signed by every Australian Prime Minister born in the last century,” Mr Schultz said.

“While this item in particular has been generating interest across Australia over the last few days, there are also a large number of other rare collectors’ items up for grabs such as signed sports jerseys and limited edition artworks.”

“We are also offering everything from holiday packages, right through to advertising packages and beauty treatments.”

Some of the major auction items going under the hammer on the day include a Melbourne Caulfield Cup experience in the BMW marquee, 156 bottles of wine from Travis Schultz’ private cellar, bilateral laser eye surgery by Laser Sight, advertising packages from Hot 91.1, Zinc 96.1, Go Transit and the Sunshine Coast Daily, artworks by Raelean Hall and Kendall, TV ad production by Sound Images, a Hunter Valley wine experience from Brokenwood and a signed t-shirt commemorating the 2002 PGA championship draw between golfers Peter Lonard and Jarrod Moseley.

Lisa Rowe, CEO of Wishlist said the Sunshine Coast community had pulled out all the stops when it came to donating auction items for this year’s event and she was very grateful to all those involved.

“The great thing about Sunshine Coast businesses is that regardless of how well they’re faring in the current economic conditions, they’re always more than willing to get behind a good cause and do what they can to help.”

“The event, which is so professionally organised by Travis and his committee, has earned a strong reputation on the Sunshine Coast for the huge difference it makes in the lives of those requiring local health services, and we couldn’t achieve such amazing results without the support of the local community.”

Last year’s event saw guests raise over $120,000 to fund a Prostate Biopsy Ultrasound, a much-needed piece of equipment for local prostate cancer patients.

This year’s Wishlist Spring Carnival Lunch sold out months ahead of the event and aims to match or increase the funds raised in previous years.

“Seeing children in pain always tugs at the heartstrings, so I’m sure the Sunshine Coast community will be digging deep to support this worthy cause,” Mr Schultz said.
