Businesses breathe new life into Maroochydore CBD
April 10, 2013
It appears interest in the Maroochydore CBD’s commercial space is renewing and the Coast’s future Principal Activity Centre is fast becoming a reality, with multiple businesses having recently opened their doors in the area.
Ken Reed, Managing Director of Maroochydore-based development company Reed Property Group, said as the economic hub of the Sunshine Coast, Maroochydore was a good indicator of growing business and consumer confidence across the region.
“We’ve certainly noticed an increase in activity over the last six months and there have been a number of businesses vying to be a part of the action as new developments are rolled out in the CBD,” Mr Reed said.
“Private Portfolio Services and Coral Tajine Moroccan & Spanish Restaurant have recently taken up commercial space in the iconic m1 building, and The Piano Bar has opened its doors just around the corner.”
Mr Reed said the renewed interest in the area could be partly attributed to Sunshine Coast Council’s Principal Activity Centre Structure Plan, as well as new and planned developments in the region.
“New developments such as Emporio and the revamped Big Top Market Fresh, as well as the recently constructed Maroochydore Homemaker Centre can only help to inject fresh life into the area and strengthen the local economy,” Mr Reed said.
Co-owner of the Coral Tajine Moroccan & Spanish Restaurant, Kylie Bibarss, said she was thrilled to have taken up residence in m1 and was excited about what the future held.
“There is a beautiful ambiance in the Maroochydore CBD,” Ms Bibarss said.
“We love the water views in our new location and it’s so nice for our customers to feel that they have escaped the hustle and bustle, while still being in the vibrant heart of Maroochydore.”
The Maroochydore Revitalisation Association (MRA) has played a key role in raising the profile of Duporth Avenue and Ocean Street, and its vision to transform the area into a cultural, music, and entertainment precinct struck the right chord with Dimitris Limnatitis, co-owner of The Piano Bar on the corner of Aerodrome Road and Ocean Street.
“The MRA’s recent Ocean Street festival really demonstrated the potential of the local area as an entertainment hub, attracting more than 15,000 people who joined in the festivities,” Mr Limnatitis said.
“People are really getting into the new vibe in the area – we’ve got live music most nights, great dining experiences that highlight local produce and that friendly laidback feel that we love on the coast.”
“Of course everyone still talks of the economic downturn, but I think we’ve been lucky to open at a time when things are looking more promising and the outlook is becoming more positive. The restaurant has been booked solid since we opened and there always seems to be people out and about in the Maroochydore area.”
The Piano Bar is open seven days a week from noon, with live music playing from 7–10 pm from Wednesday to Sunday. For bookings, phone 0417 441 313 or visit www.thepianobar.com.au.
