Business Council conference to explore regional investment challenges

May 26, 2015

With the exponential growth forecast for the Sunshine Coast over the next 20 years signalling a strong need to build and sustain the local economy over the long-term, the Sunshine Coast Business Council has announced it will address investment challenges facing regional Australia at a conference in Maroochydore on Thursday, 4 June.

Sunshine Coast Business Council Chair Sandy Zubrinich said the conference — to be held at the Maroochy RSL Events Centre — would welcome a range of high profile speakers from around Australia.

“We’re delighted to be hosting an expert panel of presenters including Stockland MD & CEO Mark Steinert, National Australia Bank Chief Economist Ivan Colhoun, SapientNitro Managing Director Stephen Forth, AMP Capital Infrastructure Airport Consultant Nicole Dawson and Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson,” Ms Zubrinich said.

“Each of these speakers is highly respected in their field and will bring a great depth of knowledge to the event which promises to provide an insightful discussion into some of the most critical issues affecting business investment and attraction in regional Australia including the Sunshine Coast.”

Ms Zubrinich said the panel would discuss issues as wide-ranging as the economic environment influencing regional Australia, right through to the benefits posed by successful regional marketing campaigns and the importance of investing in regional infrastructure.

“The support and funding of regional infrastructure will be paramount in shaping the future of the Sunshine Coast and can’t be underestimated,” Ms Zubrinich said.

“This was reflected in the 2014 Sunshine Coast Investment Survey which saw the Sunshine Coast identified as the regional location within Australia that presented the most favourable investment conditions thanks to economic drivers like the Kawana Health Precinct and the expansion of the Sunshine Coast Airport.”

“It is essential that we sustain the positive momentum generated by the Kawana Health Precinct and continue to plan and deliver other large-scale infrastructure projects well into the future.”

Ms Zubrinich said the conference panel would also discuss how the Sunshine Coast could distinguish itself to excel in the investment market place, and consider how local residents and prospective shareholders could mutually benefit from investment in the region.

“The Sunshine Coast has a limited window to highlight itself as prime investment environment, so it’s great to have such knowledgeable speakers involved with the conference who can provide expert ideas and insights into helping our region prosper,” Ms Zubrinich said.

“Business owners and operators from across the region are welcome to come along to the event and listen to and join in the discussions.”

Ms Zubrinich said the importance of the event is reflected in the quality of the sponsors – Telstra, Savills, NAB and the Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital – and thanked them for supporting the conference.

‘The Challenges for Regional Australia in a Competitive Investment Market’ conference will be held at the Maroochydore RSL Events Centre in Memorial Avenue, Maroochydore between 2.15pm and 6.30pm on Thursday, 4 June. Tickets cost $88 for SCBC members, $99 for non-members. Corporate tables of eight are also available for $550 and bookings close on 1 June.
