Following a successful inaugural event in 2015, the Brisbane International Garden Show is set to flourish once again with a range of acclaimed horticulture and landscaping experts joining hundreds of stall-holders at the 2016 event being held between 6 and 9 October at Pine Rivers Park.
Event Manager Marion Beazley said the event would include close to 100 informative presentations from over 20 speakers, including the likes of Gardening Australia’s Costa Georgiadis and industry veteran and Better Homes & Gardens Presenter Graham Ross.
“Graham is renowned for his wealth of knowledge in the gardening and horticulture industry and will deliver presentations on both Saturday, 8 and Sunday, 9 October, which are sure to draw the crowds,” Ms Beazley said.
“If last year is anything to go by, we’re expecting more than 25,000 people will pass through the event gates throughout the four-day show.”
Ms Beazley said visitors could look forward to not only getting inspiration from landscape display gardens but also having access to the myriad of plants on offer from the dozens of specialist nurseries in attendance.
“We’re thrilled to be showcasing the works of a range of Queensland landscapers from areas as widespread as Warwick and the Sunshine Coast as part of the event,” Ms Beazley said.
“Brisbane’s warm and sunny climate makes it an ideal location for not only making use of outdoor space but also growing a variety of sub-tropical plants, so we’re delighted to be providing an opportunity for home and garden lovers to check out the latest landscaping trends and seek some design inspiration.”
“We’re also excited to confirm the popular coffee cup upcycling station will return to the event again this year so gardeners can bring their used takeaway coffee cup to the station to receive a free seedling of their choice and a free sachet of seaweed fertilizer to help it grow.”
“The Austrailan Bamboo Sculpture Contest will also be staged at the event, with artists from all over Australia unleashing their creativity and putting forward handmade bamboo sculptures that are sure to impress.”
Ms Beazley said the Brisbane International Garden Show would offer plenty of activities and entertainment for the younger generation of green thumbs, with children able to dig for vegetables, plant a seedling and participate in craft activities in the dedicated kids’ area.
“While gardening may have once been viewed as a hobby for over-50s, in recent years we’ve really seen a shift towards people from all age groups embracing everything from backyard veggie patches to vertical gardens and potted succulents in the home and office.”
“Kids in particular really enjoy getting their hands dirty and learning about how things grow and where their food comes from, so we’ve made sure there’s something for all ages at this year’s event.”
Ms Beazley said dozens of nurseries would be on-site to display both old favourites and new release plants, with local company Zoom unveiling its new ‘Wave’ variety of petunia.
“We’ll also have a range of horticulture experts on hand at our free Plant Clinic to provide gardening advice and answer any curly questions from attendees.”
The 2016 Brisbane International Garden Show will be held at Pine Rivers Park, Corner Gympie Rd and Kremzow Rd, Strathpine on 6-9 October. Entry costs $20 for adults, with aged concession discounts available and kids under 15 entering free of charge.
