Breast cancer foundation to be tickled pink over local fundraiser

Staff members from emjays coffee at the Maroochydore Homemaker Centre are painting the town pink this month, with the store being given a pink makeover in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Emjays coffee Maroochydore Store Manager Nicole Isaacson said with breast cancer one of the most common cancers among Australian women, the emjays coffee team had decided to donate all tips from the month of October to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
“It’s alarming to think that almost 3,000 Queensland women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, so we wanted to raise as much money as possible to fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of this terrible disease,” Mrs Isaacson said.
“Aside from donating all our tips to the charity, we’re also raffling off a gourmet coffee hamper and selling National Breast Cancer Foundation pens, pins, coin purses and reusable shopping bags, with all money raised going to the foundation.”
“We’ve also tried our hand at baking some delicious pink cupcakes that will raise funds for this worthy cause.”
Mrs Isaacson said the staff had embraced the fundraiser with enthusiasm, donning pink shirts and pink ribbons and decorating the store with a variety of pink balloons and streamers throughout the month of October.
“Saturday, 26 October is set to be our biggest day of celebrations, and we’re inviting all Sunshine Coast locals to come along to the store and help support breast cancer patients and their families,” Mrs Isaacson said.
“Some of our team members have had family members touched by breast cancer, so this cause is very near and dear to our hearts.”
Maroochydore Homemaker Centre Manager Jennifer Ellis said she was thrilled to see the emjays coffee team giving back to the community.
“The Maroochydore Homemaker Centre has been building relationships with a number of charities over the last few months including Buderim Men’s Shed, Wishlist and SunnyKids, and while it’s great to be supporting these charities as a centre, it’s also brilliant to see individual retailers taking steps to get behind such a worthy not-for-profit organisation,” Ms Ellis said.
Emjays coffee’s breast cancer fundraiser will continue until 31 October at the Maroochydore Homemaker Centre, located at 11-55 Maroochy Blvd, Maroochydore. For more information, call 5479 0294.
