A new era of specialist healthcare has arrived on the Sunshine Coast, with the $100 million Maroochy Private Hospital officially opened on Friday 26 June in the heart of the Maroochydore City Centre.

The landmark 10-storey facility was officially opened by Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli, who joined project partners, clinicians and healthcare leaders to mark the occasion with a ceremonial ribbon cutting.

Developed by Fortius Hospitals, Maroochy Private Hospital combines world-class clinicians, advanced technology and a purpose-built facility designed to deliver a premium patient experience, setting a new benchmark for private healthcare in regional Queensland.

The hospital has spent recent months undertaking commissioning activities, welcoming its founding team and preparing for operations, with the first patients already beginning to receive care through the facility.

Fortius Hospitals Director Warwick Crosby said the opening represented a significant milestone for both the organisation and the Sunshine Coast community.

“Today marks the culmination of years of planning, collaboration and investment in healthcare for one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions,” Mr Crosby said.

“Globally, we are seeing a clear shift in how surgical care is delivered, with patients moving toward dedicated surgical facilities that improve patient experience and clinical outcomes.

“Maroochy Private Hospital has been designed around that philosophy, focusing on a select number of high-demand specialties and focusing on delivering the best achievable outcomes through clinical excellence teamwork and innovation.”

The hospital is the third facility in the Fortius Hospitals portfolio, following the successful openings of King Street Private Hospital in Newcastle and Eastwood Private Hospital in Adelaide.

Services include orthopaedics, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, plastic surgery and pain management, supported by six operating theatres, advanced imaging, consulting suites and multidisciplinary clinical spaces.

Key clinical partner, Sunshine Coast Orthopaedic Group (SCOG), will deliver orthopaedic services from the hospital’s top floor. Orthopaedic Surgeon and Director of SCOG, Associate Professor Daevyd Rodda, said the facility would provide world-class care right here on the Sunshine Coast.

“As demand for joint replacement continues to grow, we expect Maroochy Private Hospital to become a true destination hospital, attracting patients from across the Sunshine Coast and beyond for specialist treatment,” Associate Professor Rodda said.

Sunshine Coast Mayor, Rosanna Natoli said the opening of Maroochy Private Hospital represented a major investment in the region’s healthcare infrastructure and future.

“The Sunshine Coast continues to grow rapidly, and it’s important that our healthcare services grow alongside our community,” Mayor Natoli said.

“This world-class facility strengthens access to specialist healthcare close to home while creating jobs and attracting leading medical professionals to our region.”
