With Estia Health’s new $25 million aged care home in Kogarah well into its final stages of construction, the team are looking forward to opening the 72-bed home in March 2018.

Estia’s CEO and Managing Director Norah Barlow said the state-of-the-art facility would be welcoming residents moving in from their Blakehurst home, which will close and be rebuilt into a new 108-bed home to open in late 2019.

“It’s wonderful to know that our residents from Blakehurst will be the first to move in,” Mrs Barlow reflected.

“And with the extra capacity in the larger Kogarah facility, we can deliver high-quality residential aged care to even more residents of the St George community.”

So far, an estimated 150 construction jobs have been created as a direct result of the project, with local companies used wherever possible to source materials and labour.

“The site has been a hive of activity since construction commenced in June 2016,” Mrs Barlow said.

“As we move closer to opening day, we’ll also be looking at hiring additional staff to complement our bigger facility, with positions soon to be available in nursing, maintenance, administration and cleaning.”

Executive Director at Estia’s Blakehurst home, Natalie Tighe, will also lead the new Kogarah facility, with Blakehurst closing once the new home opens.

“There’s been such a positive feeling in the air here at Blakehurst,” shared Ms Tighe. “Our residents and families are so excited about the move to a brand new, purpose-built facility.”

Highlights for the new Kogarah facility include 72 light and spacious private rooms with ensuites, stunning city and district views, an in-house hairdressing salon and beauty therapy room.

“Residents will also have access to community garden terraces, a cinema, sensory garden and a private dining area,” Ms Tighe said.

One of the largest residential aged care providers in Australia with 68 homes nationwide, Estia operates 13 homes in Sydney including two locally at Bexley and Bankstown.
