Queenslander secures Olympic slot

June 21, 2012

Queenslanders will be able to support one of their own with Larrissa Miller’s place in the Australian Women’s Gymnastics team for the 2012 London Olympics being confirmed today. The bars specialist from Wellington Point who started her gymnastic career in Gymnastics Mooranbah, celebrated securing one of the five berths in the team.

Kym Dowdell, Gymnastics Queensland’s Chief Executive Officer said she was delighted to have a Queenslander on the team and confident in Larissa’s ability to do her state proud.

“Being selected is already an outstanding achievement and Larrissa has worked incredibly hard to earn her spot on the team,” said Ms Dowdell.

“It makes the gymnastics events even more attractive for spectators when you know you can barrack for a Queenslander. Our warmest congratulations go to Larissa and we look forward to getting behind her when the games kick off next month.”

Larrissa joins 2010 Commonwealth Games Gold Medal Team Lauren Mitchell, Emily Little, Georgia Bonora and Ashleigh Brennan.

The team will head to London early next month, with Australia’s gymnastics contingent now complete featuring Janine Murray (rhythmic), Blake Gaudry (trampoline) and fellow-Queenslander Josh Jefferis (men’s artistic) already named.

Ends.
